The signs of Autumn are all around us. Living in Wisconsin it’s made clear by the changing colors of the leaves and the rapidly falling temperature. I’m fascinated that like the cycle of the seasons what I’m listening to changes with the season. It’s obvious to me now that Autumn is upon us because I’ve just pulled out my Enya cds. Enya seems inherently appropriate for Autumn particularly my two favorite albums “The Celts” and “The Memory of Trees“.
Right now is the start of the hectic holiday season. Tomorrow is Halloween, then it will be Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I’ll have to start shopping for Christmas presents soon. In all the chaos I am comforted to be able escape into the peaceful world of Enya. I particularly enjoy putting on my headphones and listening as I go for walks in the brisk night air. The street and house lights glowing, the stars and moon above me. I don’t think it gets much better then this. Another fall favorite is the soundtrack from “When Harry Met Sally…” a movie which I will no doubt watch many times in the coming months.
Soon I’ll be breaking out my Billie Holiday albums, a sure sign Winter is upon me. I’ll also start listening to a new favorite Madeline Peyroux who sounds very much like Billie Holiday. As Christmas approaches I’ll start listening to my growing collection of secular Christmas music like the soundtrack to Elf and the first 10 tracks of “Maybe This Christmas Tree“.
It’s looking like it’s going to be a good end of the year. I’m settled in at Netconcepts and I don’t foresee any major hurtles. It would be nice to have someone special to spend it with but overall I can’t complain.
